I am writing to you to apply for the position of Marketing/SEO Specialist, which I saw advertised on Indeed Jobs, as I feel my skills and experience would make me absolutely perfect for the role. Not only that, but I genuinely believe this is the role I have been working towards, especially since I live in Hamilton.

 

Overview

 

In my current, and previous role, I was responsible for managing the company websites on WordPress, creating content, and generating high-quality backlinks through various link acquisition strategies. One of the areas I feel I specialize and obsess over is SEO. I not only practice this in my job, but I also read dozens of articles every week in my personal time about the latest and best SEO strategies. I am dedicated to driving organic search and with my current employers being a locally focused business I have good experience in local optimization. I don’t rest on my efforts though as I monitor my results closely and conduct A/B testing. I practice detailed keyword research using Hubspot, Alexa, Google Analytics and Google Console.

 

A More Detailed Recent Professional Analysis

 

In my last role as Marketing Director at PolicyMedical (a medical
software company in Toronto), I managed a team of full-time staff and freelancers with whom I had to communicate with on a regular basis and in a timely fashion. Moreover, I created content (blogging, social media, video, photography, email campaigns, landing pages, webinars and more) that we used to market the company. As an indicator of the success in my role, in January of last year we were receiving five leads a month; in January of this year, that number grew to more than fifty.

 

During my time at PolicyMedical, my publishing schedule (content calendar) called for the creation of two articles, one video, one Slideshare
and one repurposed article every week. After having created them, I would then supplement these items with premium content such as webinars, white papers, demo videos, email campaigns, and more. This material was made available to our target audience through our website, external websites, email and social media. The social media was automated through Hubspot. Continuous blogging, writing press releases and cross-pollination with other websites helped greatly improve the company website domain authority. Other useful
strategies I employed involved producing case studies and testimonials and pay per click campaigns. All of this content was created to attract traffic to our website and convert it into leads through CTAs and landing pages. The sales team would then pick up these leads and try to turn them into sales.

 

Achieving all the above required a lot of creative thinking, writing
and excellent communications skills. It was critical to communicate regularly with the CEO, my staff, my freelancers and the various in-house departments to make sure the content was factually correct, engaging and completed on time.

 

Creating the content was only part of the puzzle. I used Hubspot to measure the success of all of our activities to identify what worked best. I then used this data moving forward to create an even more successful output. I often used A/B testing as a tool to further garner data. I also practiced lead nurturing, creating personas and keyword analysis.

 

I enjoy and value using Hubspot for content marketing purposes. I went
through a year-long training program on content marketing with The Sales Lion (Marcus Sheridan) that cost my company over $100k. It was a fantastic learning experience for many different reasons and set me up to be a very talented content marketer.

In my current role at VCM Interactive, I took my wealth of knowledge and experience and initiated a strategic and effective marketing plan. Where I have really developed my skills, talent and experience is in keyword analysis, link building through advanced anchor text execution, link acquisition, and improved local SEO practices. I also have spent more time guest posting and making shareable content, such infographics, with embedded URLs.

 

While most of my career has been spent in broadcast television as a Director, Producer, Videographer and Editor, I feel this experience and transferable skills has made me an outstanding Digital Marketing and SEO Expert. This is because it gives me impeccable attention to detail, analytical skills, great creative flair and the ability to work well under pressure. Though I lack experience in working on content that performs to KPIS, I would research this metric tirelessly between now and my start date.
